Richard Cicinelli is a psychiatrist who has been in practice for nearly thirty years. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees at UCLA and his psychiatric training at Langley Porter, University of California San Francisco. Sub-Specialty Interests include addiction psychiatry, Jungian psychology, and individual psychotherapy. Dr. Cicinelli has worked in both public and private settings. He has served patients caught up in the criminal justice system and has helped homeless, chronically mentally ill patients receive quality mental health care.
Dr. Cicinell’s own life is touched by the effects of substance abuse in the middle of his career. Astounded that he would ever have experienced such a problem, he developed a special interest assisting others in their paths back to healthy living in gratitude for his own recovery. Presently, Dr. Cicinelli treats patients who are either contemplating getting into recovery or those who have plunged into the process and need help with psychological issues, concurrent disorders and relapse prevention.
Dr. Cicinelli has supervised residents in psychiatry for general adult psychiatry as well as for sub-specialties such as criminal justice and addictions. He has taught substance abuse at The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA, and has recently served as the Clinical Director of The Sequoia Center in Redwood City, CA.
In his personal life, Dr. Cicinelli enjoys gardening, cooking, and playing the piano. He has taught classical piano in the past as a hobby.
